Our history

Greetings and welcome to MGR-Woodworking.

My name is Darren, and I am 51 years of age. I take great pride in being the owner of MGR-Woodworking and Mitchells Garden Retreats. Allow me to share a brief overview of the journey that led to the establishment of MGR. At the age of eight, I began learning the art of craftsmanship from my father, who imparted essential knowledge about construction and the tools necessary for each task. His guidance enabled me to acquire skills in various home maintenance tasks, including repairs and the installation of kitchens and bathrooms. This foundational experience catalysed my career in the building trade, where I honed my skills across a diverse range of roles over the years. My professional background encompasses extensive experience in car upholstery, brass work, CNC machinery operation, engraving, and garden buildings. After years of collaboration with multiple companies, I realised the time had come to establish my own family-run enterprise. Drawing upon the invaluable knowledge imparted by my father, alongside the expertise I cultivated throughout my career, I established a workshop in my garden dedicated to creating bespoke pieces for friends and family under the name Mitchell's Garden Retreats, which is denoted by the acronym MGR. With over 30 years of experience in various aspects of carpentry, garden building services, and handyman/general building work, MGR-Woodworking officially launched in 2025. We eagerly anticipate what the future holds for our venture.
